Girl and a Harp
Chloe Matharu is a singer-songwriter and harpist from Pembrokeshire available as a solo artist to perform at festivals, folk clubs, banquets and weddings.
Chloe has performed at various festivals and folk clubs around the UK and mainland Europe including sell-out shows in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Having grown up in Edinburgh she was introduced to the Clarsach (Celtic harp) from a young age and fell in love with its tone and resonance. Her songs are influenced by her life at sea, folk tales and traditional Scottish and Welsh music. She is of Welsh, Scottish and Indian heritage. Music is part of her life, her maritime experiences enriching her songs which she shares with audiences with vitality and passion. Mixed into her sets are haunting renditions of traditional ballads which she performs acapella.
After taking a break from music to establish her career at sea Chloe Matharu has recently returned to the folk circuit with her harp performing songs she has written whilst on ship. She plays a Mark Norris lute back lever harp that stays onshore and also a pilgrim Skylark which joins her on ship.
As a merchant mariner, Chloe splits her time between working at sea and performing music when on shore. So far her maritime career has taken her from oil tankers sailing around Northern Europe as a cadet to cruise liners touring the world as a junior officer to navigating on the busiest waterway in the world on the ferries.
