Mair Tomos Ifans
A woman from Meirionnydd who works near and far …
A professional performer for over thirty years …
Singing …. Entertaining …. Storytelling …. Writing …. Composing …..
Mainly through the medium of Welsh … but can also perform in English
Traditional Folk songs are my main focus as a singer but I do also compose and sing my own original songs
I play the harp, including the triple harp, guitar and bass guitar and the recorder family ….
Over the years I have performed all over Wales and beyond, in halls, theatres, festivals, castles, museums, folk clubs, libraries, hotels …..
I have won the Lady Herbert Lewis Memorial Prize – for the open Folk Singing Competition at the National Eisteddfod, and also the Elfed Lewis Memorial Prize for the singing of a ballad.
I was one of the singers who was part of the Ffylantin-tw project – the Tradition’s tribute to Meredydd Evans and Phyllis Kinney.
I occasionally perform as part of a trio with Arfon Gwilym and Sioned Webb
As a storyteller I tell traditional tales, stories and legends about the Welsh giants and fairies, about heroes and villains, about odd happening and strange beasts. I have a lap harp and she helps me to illustrate the stories with traditional tunes and song.
I also offer workshops – workshops about our Welsh traditions and celebrations and visit schools to present traditional playground games and new original games based on some of our well known legends and songs.
