Ruff Ceilidhs
30 years of dancing in Cardiff! Regular ceilidhs at the Recreation Hall, Sports & Social Club, University Hospital of Wales Cardiff (aka Heath Hospital), 8.00 till midnight.
Ruff Ceilidhs – what are they? Well there’s a live band with a caller who explains the dances.
Other names include Twmpath and Barn-dance, Country dance and also sometimes e-Ceilidh.
Why RUFF? Well it has been described as short for Roll Up For Folk, but its really just a misspelling of Rough. Dave Parsons was once asked to create a display dance side very quickly, ‘What are you called?’ ‘Well its going to be rough…’
Its the sort of dancing in various set formations that most people have bumped into at a wedding, birthday, PTA, fundraiser or at schoolceilidh sometime in their lives. The dancing is infectious and great fun.
It’s a wonderful way to meet people, mix the generations, get some exercise, laugh a lot and enjoy some really exciting live music.
